Immediate Custom Implant Provisionalization: A Prosthetic Technique Immediate Custom Implant Provisionalization: A Prosthetic Technique

Author(s):

Gerard Lemongello, DMD

Date Added:

Summary:

Surgical and restorative techniques that can reduce the loss of hard and soft tissues that often accompany implant placement are desirable. The use of a customized provisional restoration will provide a mechanism to assist the clinician in achieving the preservation of hard and soft tissue. This article will explore clinical scenarios in which the fabrication of an immediate, customized provisional abutment and restoration can be utilized to guide tissue healing and improve the aesthetics of implant restorations. This article will focus on the use of a provisional restoration after traditional healing.

Surface Roughness of Restroation Margin Preparations: A Comparative Analysis of Finishing Techniques
This study compared the margin profile and surface roughness created by the tips of four different finishing instruments: fine diamond, dura white stone, tungsten carbide, and ultrasonic diamond-coated tips (UDTs). The aim was to determine which of these instruments produced the smoothest finish and created the most evenly contoured margin characteristics. It was hypothesized that UDTs would produce a rougher dentin surface than a fine diamond bur, that a tungsten carbide bur would provide a smoother finish than a fine diamond, and that the dura white stone would produce an intermediate finish.

Multipurpose Lasers in Dentistry 1999

Multipurpose Lasers in Dentistry 1999
Few professions have worked as hard as dentistry to convince the public of the value of its services and especially to make these services as attractive as possible. Of no minor importance is the realization that patients want and appreciate dentistry's efforts to make dental visits more pleasant. Efforts to communicate advancement in dentistry is seen in written advertisements, as well as television coverage of just how painless and high-tech a visit to the dentist has become. Helping improve the…

Combining Implant Replacement with Esthetic Restorative Dentistry Premium Member Content

Combining Implant Replacement with Esthetic Restorative Dentistry
Achieving predictable anterior implant esthetics is often a challenge for clinicians. The creation of anterior implant restorations with harmonious gingival contour that emulate nature is a fusion of science and art. Understanding the biologic and physiologic limitations of the soft and hard tissue along with proper implant positioning facilitates predictability in both simple and complex esthetic situations. This presentation focuses on current implant treatment philosophies and methodologies for the replacement of missing or failing teeth in the esthetic zone. Equal emphasis is placed on the diagnosis and treatment planning, current protocols for optimal 3D implant positioning, periodontal plastic procedures, bone grafting maneuvers, and prosthetic management for optimal anterior implant esthetics.

The Merger of Orthodontics with Cosmetic Dentistry Premium Member Content

The Merger of Orthodontics with Cosmetic Dentistry
As orthodontists, we don’t do laminates. But when we are finishing a case, sometimes the smile just doesn’t “look right”. But not all our patients either want or can afford laminates. Not all even need them to get a great smile. So, what principles can we learn from the cosmetic dentists and use in our orthodontic cases? Apparently quite a lot! In this presentation, Dr. Sarver will illustrate finishing procedures such as reshaping contacts, connectors, embrasures, and even soft tissue contouring with lasers to achieve that next level of smile presentation in your orthodontic cases.

Digital Workflow for Anterior Implant Aesthetics Premium Member Content

Digital Workflow for Anterior Implant Aesthetics
We have seen excellent results in the aesthetic zone when immediate implant placement techniques have been used. A review of the current literature reveals and confirms the re-education of mid-buccal facial recession is best when an immediate provisional is used. If we can digitize this information and create a crown-root form matrix, we can allow tissue to maintain the exact 3D position of the crown and root of the tooth that is to be replaced. A technique using "dicom" files and "STL" files of the original tooth-root will be demonstrated. This will allow ideal healing of the surrounding hard and soft tissues in for any implants restoration.
