The AGE Approach: A Combination Protocol for Hard and Soft Tissue Augmentation in Complex Cases

Description:
Although new restorative materials have improved predictability and outcomes, hard and soft tissue management plays a fundamental role when working in aesthetic areas. To achieve ideal results, preservation of the natural hard and soft tissue architecture is the primary clinical objective. This new proposed AGE protocol illustrates the importance of hard and soft tissue management when working in esthetic and highly compromised areas. This protocol and schematic approach was developed to help the surgical practitioner visualize and divide the problem into a predictable step-by-step workflow. Every step is dictated by biology. All incision designs, flap management techniques, and biomaterials used have been selected to maximize the blood supply in the area and minimize trauma to the vascular network that nourishes our surgical site. This protocol was developed for the treatment of any case presenting a combination of vertical and horizontal, hard and soft tissue deficiency. The protocol will be explained in detail with a clinical case complete with pictures and commentary. The protocol will be divided into a four part series describing all possible scenarios.

It looks like there was a considerable bone resorption after the bone grafting procedure (2nd CBCT image). What is the possible reason for that? Graft material or mesh design? Thank you
