Some experts estimate the rate of sleep apnea in our society at greater than 15%. Awareness and the need for treatment of this deadly condition has never been higher. Viewers will be given a basic introduction to sleep and detailed information on how to identify sleep apnea in existing dental patients with the latest screening techniques and tools. Mr. Nadeau reviews the diagnostic process and outlines the protocols for home sleep testing and working with the medical community in your area to generate referrals for oral appliance therapy from local sleep specialists. Finally, we will cover the step-by-step treatment protocol and records for appliances as well as ways to predict treatment and maximize treatment efficacy. Oral appliances made by a trained dentists are now recommended by many physicians to treat sleep apnea.

CBCT in Endodontics: Changing the Landscape of Diagnosis and Clinical Treatment
Radiographic imaging is essential in the diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up in endodontics. The interpretation of an image can be confounded by a number of factors, including the regional anatomy as well as superimposition of both the teeth and surrounding dento-alveolar structures. As a result of superimposition, periapical radiographs reveal only limited aspects, a 2-dimensional view, of the true three dimensional anatomy. Additionally, there is often geometric distortion of the anatomical structures being imaged with conventional radiographic methods. These problems can be overcome by utilizing small or limited volume cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging techniques which produce accurate 3-dimensional images of the teeth and surrounding dento-alveolar structures. This presentation will highlight the indications, advantages and considerations of the use of CBCT in endodontics.

In prosthetic rehabilitations, we used for many years codified and widely described protocols in literature, with results that met our expectations and well above those of our patients. It is true that the advent of new technologies has enabled the dental team to use new material and new equipment that facilitated the production of an adaptation and an accuracy of the prosthetic rehabilitation that has, up to now, been difficult to obtain. Effectiveness of a Super-Pulsed CO2 Laser For Removal of Biofilm From Three Different Types of Implant Surfaces: An In Vitro Study
As dental implants become a routine part of dental practice, so too will the prevalence of peri-implant diseases. Inherent to the treatment of peri-implant disease is the removal of microbial biofilms from the implant surface. Currently, there is no standardized protocol for application of any treatment modality directed at implant surface decontamination. In this in vitro study, we report on the effectiveness of a super-pulsed CO2 laser, delivering an average fluence of 6.3 to 113 J/cm2, to remove biofilm from three different types of implant surface topographies. Biofilms ranged in thickness from 5 to 15 μm. An average fluence of 19 J/cm2 was sufficient to achieve 100% ablation of the biofilm on hydrophilic sandblasted and acidetched surface specimens (SA). However, to achieve 100% ablation of biofilm on HA and highly crystalline, phosphate enriched titanium oxide (PTO) surfaced implants required an average fluence of 38 J/cm2.
