Dr Sonick,I like the idea of the non-surgical augmentation of the labial soft tissue utilizing shorter semi-submerged healing abutment.Could you describe how the incision line goes to mobilise the buccal tissue?Do you release the periostium or is it full-thicknes flap? Thank you.

Nice and sound thinking with classic techniques. By the way "Guided Subgingival Augmentation" mentioned in this presentation was 1st published by Salama et al. in Journal of Esthetic Dentistry in 1995 Volume 7 Number 3 and can be downloaded on this site as a pdf file. Just thought some may wish the abstract (see below) which was unfortunately not cited by Dr. Sonick. Developing Optimal Peri-Implant Papillae within the Esthetic Zone: Guided Soft Tissue Augmentation Osseointegrated dental implants have enjoyed longterm success in the rehabilitation of totally edentulous patients. Every aspect of traditional treatment planning protocols continues to be re-evaluated and updated to better incorporate the benefits of osseointegration into clinical practice. This is particularly evident as dentistry has committed to fully integrating this approach into the more varied and demanding environment of the partially edentulous patient. Socket-Shield Technique in Immediate Implant Placement
This presentation demonstrates the use of a new approach to extraction and immediate implant placement. The Socket-Shield Technique aims to extract a tooth while maintaining the labial root segment in place. This requires a technically sensitive approach due to the need to precisely cut/drill the unwanted major portion of the tooth without disturbing the relationship of the labial segment with the labial plate of bone. The technique and supporting literature are discussed and demonstrated.

Esthetic Tissue Reconstruction Around Implants - Part 1 of 2
Esthetics in implant-supported restorations is an important clinical objective in contemporary dentistry. Understanding the biological behavior of hard and soft tissues following tooth extraction is the first step to anticipate the physiological tissue remodeling and its consequences. Our objective in these 2 sequencial lectures was to provide straightforward decision trees related to several clinical scenarios observed in routine clinical practice. The 3 fundamental pillars for peri-implant excellence are: restorative-driven implant position, hard and soft tissue reconstruction using different biomaterials and grafts, and prosthetic management. Using this philosophical approach seems to provide esthetic and stable results over time irrespective of the initial clinical condition.

Sinus Augmentation for Single-Tooth Replacement in the Posterior Maxilla: A 3-Year Follow-up Clinical Report
A technique for single-tooth sinus lift and simultaneous implant placement in the posterior maxilla is presented. Ten hydroxyapatite-coated cylindric implants, 13 to 15 mm in length, were placed together with a composite bone graft of demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft and autogenous bone in 10 adults. Surgical technique and anatomic considerations are discussed. Follow-up of 3 years showed successful function and no cervical bone loss in all patients.

Root Fracture During Insertion of Prefabricated Posts
The consequence of inappropriate post selection and/ or hasty insertion can result in tooth fracture and/or loss. It has been demonstrated that conical or parallel sided post design has a direct effect on root fracture during post insertion. However, during experimentation it became apparent that root size and its relationship to post size had a direct effect on root fracture. This article correlates root size, post size, and fracture rate during insertion of prefabricated posts.
