Tom; Dr. Han is retired from dentistry now and no longer manages his posts. Some answers for the board based on my own review, sutures 5.0 monofilament and horizontal mattress. This technique would not work well under an existing Pontic and there are better techniques for adjacent root coverage. Best with autologous grafts, less so with ADM. The tissue can be harvested from palate or Tuberosity. Anyone interested Ina hands-on course go to Live course area on DentalXP. Thnx Dr. Salama

I would be interested in how you sutured the connective tissue in place as well as the suture technique to keep the elevated tissue in place.....horizontal mattress sutures?? Where,5-0,6-0?

Bucco-palatal collapse of the post-extraction ridge is a significant challenge in restorative and implant dentistry. A variety of different approaches as well as ridge preservation techniques using tissue and augmentative materials have been proposed in this session with some of the leading clinical research teams in the field. A conceptual debate format discussing the virtues of "Early Placement" at 6 weeks (Buser & Belser Team) vs. "Immediate Placement with Dual Zone Protocols" at time of extraction (Chu & Tarnow Team) vs. "Partial Extraction Therapy" PET (Gluckman & Salama) also at the time of extraction is led by Professor Homa Zadeh of USC. This interactive session explores the current status and poses questions for the future use and indications of each proposed therapy.

Peri-implant Soft Tissue Conditioning with Provisional Restorations in the Esthetic Zone: The Dynamic Compression Technique
An optimal esthetic implant restoration is a combination of a visually pleasing prosthesis and surrounding peri-implant soft tissue architecture. This article introduces a clinical method, the dynamic compression technique, of conditioning soft tissues around bone-level implants with provisional restorations in the esthetic zone. The technique has several goals: to establish an adequate emergence profile; to recreate a balanced mucosa course and level in harmony with the gingiva of the adjacent teeth, including papilla height/width, localization of the mucosal zenith and the tissue profile's triangular shape; as well as to establish an accurate proximal contact area with the adjacent tooth/implant crown.

Oral Soft Tissue Laser Ablative and Coagulative Efficiencies Spectra
The key to the success of soft tissue lasers is their ability to cut and coagulate the soft tissue at the same time. Present work is aimed to derive the wavelength-dependent differences in photo-thermal ablation and coagulation efficiencies for oral soft tissue pulsed dental Near-IR Diode, Mid-IR Erbium and IR CO2 lasers. Even though the soft tissue photothermal ablation has been extensively studied, there remains a discrepancy between (a) the widely proliferated notion about efficient Near-IR 800-1,100 nm laser ablation of the oral soft tissue, and (b) studies reporting the inefficient soft tissue Near-IR absorption/ablation. Indeed, the notions about “the key to the usefulness of the Nd:YAG is that this wavelength is highly absorbed in oral soft tissue”, and “all currently available dental laser instruments and their emission wavelengths have indications for use for incising, excising... oral soft tissue surgery”, contradict an observation illustrated here...
