Periodontal Plastic Surgery in the Treatment of the Gummy Smile

Description:
Thanks to the constant advances in modern dentistry we can predict surgical results, stablishing new standards for diagnosis and develop treatments for periodontal plastic surgery as of Altered Passive Eruption by electrosurgery. This is used by the T- shaped regulation, provided by Dr. Chu for the accuracy golden proportions, which has became an innovative way to make cosmetic lengthening of the clinical crowns, covering changes in relations to size, shape, and balance of the teeth to obtain a radical variation in the front aesthetic of patients.

Hello Barry, you can get dr. Chu's guide trough a Hu-Friedy distributor; and the most important thing is that the patient is fully grown up to be able to make bone remodelations procedures...

David Garber - (7/15/2013 7:35 PM)

excellent presentation explaining the complexities of excessive gingival display, and smile design - really nice surgeries , but the title was a little misleading in the translation because the procedures were so much more than simple electrosurgery - electrosurgery was a well selected component of the whole procedure.

Please provide info on obtaining Dr. Chu's guide. If a patient presents with altered passive eruption under 20 years of age, what are the alternatives to treatment. Great presentation!

I agree that the laser is an excellent choice in crown lengthening. But if you are used with electrosurgery and use it low potency and without touching the bone you will never have problems with long term recession.

Edward Kusek - (7/14/2013 9:40 PM)

sorry, but learn to use a laser instead of electrosurge. You increase pain to the patient and increase long term recession

Alessandro Agnini - (7/13/2013 12:43 PM)

Well done Emilio and beatiful cases. You are a talented young dentist.

A Novel Surgical-Prosthetic Approach to Optimize Peri-Implant Tissue Esthetics
The achievement of an aesthetic implant-supported restoration is a constant challenge to the restorative dentist. Due to the circular shape of the implant and its smaller diameter, when compared to the root of a natural tooth, a dilemma inevitably occurs of how to construct an artificial crown that will imitate the natural tooth crown form. The appearance of the surrounding soft tissue is of major importance, and various techniques have been developed to guide its topography. The Marginal Migration Concept is a technique that helps the clinician in order to achieve a long-term predictable outcome in the Aesthetic zone by enhancing the surrounding tissues. The lecture will show step-by-step clinical procedures from diagnostic models through surgery with immediate provisional restoration therapy to the definitive restorations.

Modern Crown Lengthening: Classification and Clinical Application
Crown lengthening procedures are indicated to provide adequate tooth structure in case of subgingival tooth fracture or caries, uneven gingival level, un-esthetic short crowns due to the tooth wear, inadequate axial height, altered passive eruption ,forced eruption of a single or multiple teeth and finally in case of gingival smile. The treatment modality for esthetic crown lengthening procedure should be based on detail diagnosis in each case because of the multifactorial etiology and because of the type of therapy selected by the clinician, will have a direct implication for the esthetic result.

A Periodontal-Restorative Approach to Achieving an Esthetic Outcome in Worn Dentition

A Periodontal-Restorative Approach to Achieving an Esthetic Outcome in Worn Dentition
Esthetic dentistry demands more of clinicians than just simeple knowledge of tooth anatomy and the proper dimensions of teeth. Dentists must also know and understand the proper positions of the teeth in relation to the gingiva, the lips, and entire face. Esthetic measurements are not the only important factors. Other considerations need to include the patient's phonetics and function. A example of a situation where this knowledge and awareness is imperative is in the case of the worn dentition (eg, attrition, abrasion, etc). This article addresses a simple case of how a patients esthetics have been compromised as a result of erosion as well as parafunctional activity (toothbrush abrasion) and how the patient was eventually restored with an interdisciplinary approach between the restorative dentist and the periodontal surgeon.
