Periodontal-Prosthesis in Modern Dentistry – Part 2 of 2

Description:
Clinicians must be aware of patient expectations when planning dental treatment. When full mouth reconstruction is planned, it is very important to satisfy such expectations in order to provide successful treatment. Patients are often concerned about the cost and duration of treatment, and the pain, esthetics, comfort, and function after treatment. However, we cannot assure longevity unless the treatment has a scientific basis. During reconstruction or restoration, we generally remove and replace the existing crowns. Secondary caries are mostly detected on removal of these. Due to the caries, the ferrule and tooth thickness are not adequate; and frequently, the condition may not be suitable for prosthetic treatment. In such cases, we choose to extract the tooth or perform crown lengthening to retain the tooth. These days many teeth that we could retain by crown lengthening procedure are replaced by implants. In this presentation, we describe some cases in which a crown lengthening procedure had to be performed in anterior and posterior areas to retain the teeth, followed by soft tissue management and final esthetic restoration. The treatment plan, procedure, progress and results are presented here.

Minimally Invasive Tooth Replacement Strategies in the Esthetic Zone: The Evolution of New Age Concepts
Modern Tooth Replacement Strategies are more concerned about esthetics than ever before especially in light of recent research that clearly defines the risk of resorption, ridge constriction, tissue recession and color changes that often occur following extraction and implant replacement. This presentation will describe the Dual Zone concepts recently published to address these issues as well partial extraction therapies which may play an expanding and more critical role in the future.

Diagnosis, Planning, & Treatment of Altered Passive Eruption; From a Periodontists Perspective
This presentation will teach how to diagnose cases of altered passive eruption based on the radiographic evaluation (with peri-apical rx and CBCT) and how to plan and document a surgical procedure aimed to ‘uncover’ the beautiful and natural hidden enamel. In a world where esthetics is becoming more and more a concern a simple periodontal plastic surgical procedure can re-establish esthetic and balance to the patients affected by this condition.

Emerging Perspectives in Soft Tissue Augmentation: Evolving Tools, Techniques & Materials
Soft tissue root coverage microsurgery and pontic site enhancement are frequently utilized periodontal plastic surgery techniques to create an ideal restorative frame for teeth, pontics and implants. Tunnel, Semilunar, VISTA etc. are among the new age techniques highlighted in this growing area of periodontal microsurgery. New autologous tissue harvest techniques, Allograft ACDM and Bioactive Modifiers have all changed the way we are capable of managing soft tissue deficiencies and have assisted the clinician in improving the healing qualities of these minimally invasive techniques. This lecture will cover site preparation techniques for conventional dentistry as well as prior to and after implant placement.

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peri-Implant Disease

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peri-Implant Disease
Although some risk factors of peri-implant disease are well defined, the lack of efficient and predictable approaches to treat peri-implantitis has created difficulty in the management of those complications. The aim of this review was the evaluate the reliability of the diagnosis methods and to provide a set of guidelines to treat peri-implant disease. A search of PubMed and a hand search of articles related to peri-implant diseases were conducted up to August 2013. A summary of the current methods for the diagnosis of peri-implantitis, its potential risk factors, and a flow chart to guide the clinical management of these conditions are presented.
