Description:
In part 2 of this comprehensive lecture series, Dr. Robert Horowitz utilizes clinical research and clinical cases to outline successful approaches to extraction site enhancement and implant placement. Why treat an extraction site, what to utilize for grafting, when to place the implant, what are the costs, and how to combine various techniques are only a few of the questions that are answered in this detailed presentation.

Dr Horowitz,do you add any antibiotics to your socket grafts materials. There is a variety of views about it:gentamycin eye drops, tetracycline, ampicillin, metronidazol. What is your opinion about this subject?Dr Simon Milbauer

Implant Placement into a preserved or regenerated socket/ridge is usually straight forward and is featured in other areas on this site. I also would like to see Dr. Horowitz show us the re-entry on some of these cases in a future presentation. Perhaps some histology as well to prove his views. Dr. Salama

looking forward to the next step, implant placement

Simultaneous Autogenous Block Grafting & Implant Placement
Autogenous bone is the gold standard of bone augmentation. Studies have also shown that bone blocks achieve far more predictable bone volume while reducing the need for further grafting at the time of implant placement.

Titanium Mesh and rhBMP-2 in Ridge Augmentation: Options and Limitations
Titanium mesh has been used in reconstructive surgery and ridge augmentation for several years. The traditional technique involves using cancellous autogenous bone under the mesh scaffold. More recently growth factors and bone substitutes have been utilized as autograft replacements. There are several advantages to using titanium mesh for space maintenance including strength, ease of use, low cost and biocompatibility. However, the difficulty in removing the mesh has led to a search for other space maintenance scaffolds including tenting screws, dense preshaped collagen and porous high-density polyethylene. This webinar will discuss the use of rhBMP-2 for managing horizontal and vertical bone deficiencies with various scaffolds.

Long-Term Block Graft Stability in Thin Periodontal Biotype Patients - A Clinical and Tomographic Study
Autogenous block grafting seems to be a predictable treatment modality to reconstruct alveolar ridge defects in the long term. A thin periodontal biotype did not seem to affect the volume of transplanted bone for the population studied.
