Implant Placement into a preserved or regenerated socket/ridge is usually straight forward and is featured in other areas on this site. I also would like to see Dr. Horowitz show us the re-entry on some of these cases in a future presentation. Perhaps some histology as well to prove his views. Dr. Salama

Titanium Mesh and it's Role in Bone Augmentation; A Clinical Review
Different surgical procedures have been proposed in reconstruction of deficient alveolar ridges for placing dental implants in optimum prosthetic and esthetic position. One of the inconveniences of titanium mesh which has been reported is the exposure of it but on the other hand the benefit in comparison to non resorbable membranes is that there is no need for removal and the risk of infection is very low. In this lecture different cases will be presented and clinical points to be considered in using titanium mesh will be highlighted.

This lecture will describe the use of autologous onlay block bone grafting for reconstruction of moderate to severe atrophic posterior mandibular alveolar ridge. This will include a discussion of the various options to this form of grafting, such as Short implants, Lingual positioning, nerve repositioning, distraction osteogenesis, and GBR. The Mutli-Tier onlay Bone Graft Technique will be highlighted in this presentation. Additionally, a review of a recently submitted research paper of long term follow up of implants placed into autologous bone blocks harvested from the mandibular ramus, retromolar and sympheseal areas will be discussed.

Bone graft materials are critical to the success of dental implants when there is a need to increase the volume of bone in a defect. The surface properties of these graft materials will have a profound impact on the outcome of the graft procedure. The clinician has many choices of bone graft substitutes when augmenting bony deficits. Allograft bone is the most widely used class of bone graft substitutes. Within this class there are a number of different bone allografts, which are manufactured utilizing widely varying processing techniques. There also appears to be a wide range of results in the published literature across the spectrum of different bone allografts. This in-vitro study evaluated chemical and surface properties of five different commercially available mineralized bone allografts.

Socket Gafting with the use of Autologous Bone - an Experimental Study in the Dog
In five beagle dogs, the distal roots of the third and fourth mandibular premolars were removed. The sockets in the right or the left jaw quadrant were grafted with either anorganic bovine bone or with chips of autologous bone harvested from the buccal bone plate. After 3 months of healing, biopsies of the experimental sites were sampled, prepared for buccal–lingual ground sections and examined with respect to size and composition.
