Sequencing of Periodontal Procedures and Orthodontic Treatment
Severe cases of periodontal disease often require periodontal surgery and realignment of teeth. Surgical techniques have been developed that attempt to minimize postsurgical gingival recession and compromise the interdental papillae. A case report is presented in which reversal and correction of a deteriorating maxillary frontal dentition were effectively achieved through combined use of periodontal and orthodontic principles. The treatment plan included the control of periodontal inflammation, restoration of lost attachment apparatus, realignment of anterior dentition, stabilization of occlusion, and minor periodontal plastic surgery. The anticipated loss of a maxillary lateral incisor was avoided. Restoration of a pleasant smile with nicely aligned teeth and esthetic gingival contours was achieved. The correct sequencing of the procedures involved was considered a key factor for the long-term esthetic outcome.

Emerging Perspectives in Soft Tissue Augmentation: Evolving Tools, Techniques & Materials
Soft tissue root coverage microsurgery and pontic site enhancement are frequently utilized periodontal plastic surgery techniques to create an ideal restorative frame for teeth, pontics and implants. Tunnel, Semilunar, VISTA etc. are among the new age techniques highlighted in this growing area of periodontal microsurgery. New autologous tissue harvest techniques, Allograft ACDM and Bioactive Modifiers have all changed the way we are capable of managing soft tissue deficiencies and have assisted the clinician in improving the healing qualities of these minimally invasive techniques. This lecture will cover site preparation techniques for conventional dentistry as well as prior to and after implant placement.

Controversies in Modern Implant Therapy; Lasers and Immediate Loading
The biological basis for clinical applications of Lasers and Immediate Loading will be discussed and and protocols for clinical applications will be demonstrated. Protocols for soft tissue management, treatment of peri-implantitis with lasers and the positive effects of the loading forces on the bone will be used in order to accelerate treatment in Implant dentistry.

Surgical Veneer Grafting: Utilization in Immediate Implant Placement
The management of the digital implant prosthetic dentistry, especially in the anterior esthetic area, is one of the hottest topics in Dentistry. The diagnostic phase is critical. In the course, are discussed all the parameters to achieve the correct diagnosis of the socket and the various treatment plan correlated to each anatomical type of socket. The Dual Zone approach (bone zone and tissue zone) will be evaluated and discussed in detail, regarding each of their variables.

Advanced Immediate Implant Placement Strategies Including the Socket Shield (SS) Technique and its Complications Premium Member Content

Advanced Immediate Implant Placement Strategies Including the Socket Shield (SS) Technique and its Complications
Immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone has become a controversial topic with regards to the long term aesthetic demands that both the profession and our patients have placed on this treatment modality. Since the controversy broke a few years ago there have been a number of outstanding developments that have revolutionized the way we do immediate implant placement. Soft tissue augmentations using the tunnel technique as well as the socket whiled technique are 2 of these techniques which form the baseline of treatment in our clinic. This lecture will go through all the updated protocols of immediate implant placement supported by the literature as well as deal specifically with the finer details of the socket whiled technique including step by step photos and video of the technique. More importantly it will cover numerous complications that we have had to deal with over the last few years that we have been doing this technique.

Biologic Width Adjacent to Loaded Implant with Machined and Rough Collars in the Dog

Biologic Width Adjacent to Loaded Implant with Machined and Rough Collars in the Dog
Dental implant surface technology has evolved from a relatively smooth machined implant surface for osseointegration to more roughened osteoconductive surfaces. Recent studies suggest that peri-implant soft tissue inflammation with progressive bone loss (ie peri-implantitis) is becoming a prevalent condition. One possibility that could explain sucha a finding is that more bacterial plaque forms on the roughened implant and abutment surfaces, which may result in the peri-implant inflammation if the soft tissues. This study compared 36 tissue-level implants with a machined transmucosal collar to 36 implants with a relatively roughened transmucosal surface in the dog. The results demonstrated that the connective tissue contact was similar between the two implant types but that the junctional epithelium and biologic width dimensions were greater around the implants with the machined collars...

A Periodontal-Restorative Approach to Achieving an Esthetic Outcome in Worn Dentition

A Periodontal-Restorative Approach to Achieving an Esthetic Outcome in Worn Dentition
Esthetic dentistry demands more of clinicians than just simeple knowledge of tooth anatomy and the proper dimensions of teeth. Dentists must also know and understand the proper positions of the teeth in relation to the gingiva, the lips, and entire face. Esthetic measurements are not the only important factors. Other considerations need to include the patient's phonetics and function. A example of a situation where this knowledge and awareness is imperative is in the case of the worn dentition (eg, attrition, abrasion, etc). This article addresses a simple case of how a patients esthetics have been compromised as a result of erosion as well as parafunctional activity (toothbrush abrasion) and how the patient was eventually restored with an interdisciplinary approach between the restorative dentist and the periodontal surgeon.

The Socket-Shield Technique to Support the Buccofacial Tissues at Immediate Implant Placement

The Socket-Shield Technique to Support the Buccofacial Tissues at Immediate Implant Placement
Tooth loss and subsequent ridge collapse continue to burden restorative implant treatment. Careful management of the post-extraction tissues is needed to preserve the alveolar ridge. In-lieu of surgical augmentation to correct a ridge defect, the socket-shield technique offers a promising solution. As the root submergence technique retains the periodontal attachment and maintains the alveolar ridge for pontic site development, this case report demonstrates the hypothesis that retention of a prepared tooth root section as a socket-shield prevents the recession of tissues buccofacial to an immediately placed implant. The socket-shield technique is a highly promising addition to clinical implant dentistry and this case report is among the first to demonstrate the procedure in clinical practice with a 1-year follow up.
