It is interesting for the speaker mentions the matrix that is a small piece comparing with circumferential matrix. Why is it good of using a short matrix?

Hi Maurice: Thanks for the comment on my video. In my practice I try to do more direct resin restorations under the scope for 3 surface or less restorations and something indirect for greater than 3 surfaces but again it does depend on whether there are cracks visible under the scope or whether the restoration weakens buccal or lingual walls. I have to do more direct resin restorations in my general practice simply because not all patients can afford full coverage or indirect reatorations all the time. In bevelling the occlusal surface, using the microscope at 8-12 X mag and filling in layers I reduce but of course do not eliminate the issues you have mentioned that do occur more often with direct restorations than with indirect. I do wish that I could do more indirect restorations but this is the nature of the beast in my practice and I hope the video might help provide some tips for those who like myself do the odd direct resin restoration. Any long term maintenance issues with micro leakage, marginal integrity or staining??
