Smile Design and The Bonded Functional Esthetic Prototype (BFEP)

Description:
This lecture will mainly focus on the the step-by-step process of how to turn the 2-dimensional Photoshop smile design into a 3D Bonded Functional Esthetic Prototypes (BFEP’s) the patient wears to verify esthetic and functional acceptance. A very efficient technique using a new highly flowable but highly filled micro-hybrid that uses an injection molding tray technique will be demonstrated. A full arch composite bonding can be done in one hour with this technique. This BFEP technique can be used for “trial smiles” for pre-treatment esthetic and functional evaluation by the patient and the treatment team. It can also be used for long-term functional temporization for years if necessary. The BFEP will then be used as the final guide for preparations for Anterior Etched Ceramic restorations (porcelain veneers and glass ceramics.

The Smile Design Revolution - Management, Communication and Implementation
Treatment planning a full mouth rehabilitation is amazingly challenging. So many options and steps must be coordinated and controlled to achieve a successful outcome. Developing the Smile Design is just the starting point. Carefully integrating this design to function is the key. This presentation will show how this process is a complex brainstorm that needs to be guided by logical and rational steps to achieve consistent and predictable solutions.

Smile Design 3D vs. 2D: The Evolution of Precision in Esthetic Digital Dentistry
In the digital dentistry era, trials never stop to achieve a full digital workflow to fabricate aesthetic restorations based on predictable and accurate facial guided smile design methods but the existing techniques present limitations in the process of transferring the design from 2D to 3D as they are mainly based on 2D Photography and 2D to 3D superimposition and transfers. In this presentation a review of the available techniques and technologies is presented as well as a novel technique that has been used to design a 3D smile frame using 3D face scans, 3D intra oral optical scans, CBCT and multiple software to overcome the limitations of already available 2D smile design systems offering predictable, more accurate and easier to use workflows for success in analysis, planning, design and execution in everyday clinical practice.

Correction of Tooth Defects and Discolored Teeth Using Direct Composite Resin
For over 50 years dentists have been making instant esthetic transformations using direct composite resin. That technology has been enhanced by the latest nano composite materials. Although the past decade has seen greater use of ceramic materials in esthetic dentistry, direct bonding with these new composites is still a highly valuable procedure. This video will deal with correction of severe tooth discoloration using nano composites. Immediate composite resin bonding can act as either the ideal correction or as an extended trial smile so patients can live with their new smile as long as necessary.

Successful Composite Resin Restorations - Part 2 of 2
Amalgam has been a durable successful dental restorative material; however this material has recently come under question due to its mercury content and disposal. Composite resin materials range from flowable to highly filled condensable type viscosities. There are many factors that influence the success of posterior composite resin restorations. This presentation will identify the factors that limit success (size, patient type, caries risk, shrinkage, curing light) and the materials that can be successfully used to restore posterior teeth. Beginning with flowable materials and their clinical application the presentation will discuss the open sandwich technique, use of flowable posterior restorations, sectional matrices and fluoride, calcium and phosphate releasing materials.
